CBSK COURTESY VISIT TO THE ETHIOPIAN EMBASSY

Under the leadership of the National Executive Chairman and Chamber President Dr. Samuel Waruathe, the Chamber of Business Sectors in Kenya (CBSK) paid a courtesy call to His Excellency Mr. Demeke Atnafu Ambulo the Ambassador of Ethiopia in Kenya. The productive meeting took place recently at the Ethiopia Embassy focusing on key strategic business partnerships and networking opportunities between Kenya and Ethiopia business community.

As the third-largest economy in Sub-Saharan Africa and the second-most populous country on the continent, Ethiopia offers a substantial labour force and a large consumer market. The country’s technological advancements have spurred growth in sectors such as manufacturing, agro-processing and information technology, including the recent entry of Safaricom and the development of industrial and IT villages in Addis Ababa. Additionally, Ethiopia has begun supplying green electricity to Kenya, Sudan, and Djibouti.

Ethiopian Ambassador H.E. Mr. Demeke Atnafu Ambulo outlined that the government’s liberalization policies have facilitated foreign exchange, trade, and banking opportunities as well as opening up the special and export processing zones which are gearing up to attract more foreign direct investments.

The CBSK National Executive Chairman and Chamber President highlighted amongst;

▪︎ By working together, countries can reduce trade barriers, harmonize regulations, and increase market access, allowing companies to scale more rapidly.

▪︎ Collaborative efforts can lead to shared infrastructure projects, such as energy grids, technology hubs and research facilities, which are crucial for the development of emerging sectors.

▪︎ Need for Kenyan and Ethiopian-owned businesses to continue subscribing as members of CBSK and tap into the imminent business opportunities provided through the chamber engagement platforms.

In attendance in the meeting were the National Directors Advocate Kamoing’ Judith, Mr. Joseph Mathenge, Chief Executive Officer Ms.Penah Mutinda and Mr. Pius Ewoton who highlighted the need to implement the government special status agreements between Kenya and Ethiopia.
