UNDERSTANDING THE TRADE INVESTMENT CLIMATE BETWEEN KENYA AND UGANDA
The National Executive Chairman and Chamber President of the Chamber of Business Sectors of Kenya (CBSK), Dr. Samuel Waruathe, paid a courtesy call to His Excellency Mr. Evans Aryabaha, the Acting Head of Mission at the Uganda High Commission in Nairobi.
During the meeting, Dr. Waruathe presented the chamber’s mission and vision, emphasizing key strategies and proposals to enhance business cooperation between Kenya and Uganda. These include;
▪︎ The importance of creating an enabling environment through policies that promote business growth and ease trade barriers between the two nations.
▪︎ The need to strengthen ties between the Kenyan and Ugandan business communities was underscored, with a focus on creating more opportunities for entrepreneurs from both countries to engage and collaborate.▪︎ Forums that would address challenges related to immigration and customs, ensuring smoother cross-border trade. Dr. Waruathe suggested that such forums would equip traders with knowledge and solutions to common cross-border issues.
▪︎ The discussion highlighted the importance of better road connectivity between Kenya and Uganda, which is critical for efficient transportation of goods and services across the borders.
▪︎ Dr. Waruathe also proposed initiatives that would facilitate business exchange programs, allowing for the transfer of knowledge, skills, and expertise between the two nations’ business communities.
His Excellency Mr. Evans Aryabaha was pleased to host the CBSK delegation and echoed many of Dr. Waruathe’s points. He highlighted on strengthening Relations with Uganda’s Private Business Sector and emphasized the importance of sharing relevant business proposals and issues with the Kenyan government during joint ministerial meetings.
The meeting was attended by several key figures, including Minister Counselor Ms. Doreen Ruyondo, First Secretary Ms. Juliet Kiggundu, Major General Samuel Kawagga, CBSK National Directors Advocate Kamoing’ Judith, Mr. Joseph Mathenge, Mr. Pius Ewoton, and CBSK Chief Executive Officer Ms. Penah Mutinda.
This discussion marked an important step toward enhancing the trade and investment relationship between Kenya and Uganda, with both sides showing a commitment to addressing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
